The Riedell Ice Skates 10 is a nice entry level figure skate that won't break the bank and won't exactly discourage your child from learning how to ice skate. Our daughter loves it and we're sure we'll be upgrading once she outgrows this pair but we're expecting this pair to last at least 1 or more seasons. The padding along the ankle area is a lot better than what we've seen when shopping for a nice entry level pair of skates. Overall, a nice entry level pair to have your child break in with.

I have purchased three pair of these ice skates for my daughter whose foot seems to grow overnight! My daughter is 4 years old (skates on average 8-10 hours a week) and is in our local Figure Skating Club who also competes. The Riedell 10 skate is perfect for her little (but growing) feet. They are nicely padded on the inside of the boot which make for pain-free skating. She has never complained of cold or hurting feet/ankles. I always have them sharpened when I first receive them and then again every 2 months or so. Since we store them completely dry after skating, and put them on the boot warmer before hitting the ice, I have yet to see any rust. I have been advised to move her up to the Riedell 12 when this recent pair gets too small. I highly recommend Riedell to the occassional skater or the skater who is just starting out but skates frequently.

Summit Sports does have a great return-process. They email a prepaid UPS shipping label.

If you do purchase these skates, be aware of any special promotions - in my case there was a promotion for free shipping for orders over $50 and I missed it. That would have saved me $10 or so if only I had remembered to add the promotion code to my order.

I purchased these for my 5 year old daughter prior to her learn to skate class. They have been absolutely wonderful. The other girls sometimes complain of foot pain with lower priced leather skates. My daughter has never complained. They are easy to put on and remove as well due to the velcro straps. So far so good. They have never come undone. Mothers have trouble tying normal figure skates. They just can't seem to get them tight enough. I see girls skating out there and I know that their ankles are not properly supported. These are a great skate if you are a mom and will be putting your little girl on the ice by yourself. My daughter has progressed really well over the last 6 months and may be trying out for her first skating team. We may need to go to a standard skate soon..but only for the looks. I was completely satisfied with these skates.

American Athletic 512 Girls Figure Skates

Great skate for my daughter and inexpensive.

The sizes run small on this. You might want to get a size or two larger. So much better then the rental skates -- the blade is sharp and not all dinged up. The boots probably aren't as comfortable as more expensive boots, but my daughter hasn't complained and the skates have dramatically improved her skating.

I also bought the mens skate that is basically the same model and just paid for shipping one time as sold by skatebuys through amazon with one checkout. The sizes also run small on this -- I wear a 9.5 to 10 shoe and bought a size 11 skate which fits just right. I haven't skated on sharp blades for over 20 years -- it's great(I didn't pay for the extra sharpenning and they are plenty sharp).

The boots could be a bit more comfortable especially the upper tong -- but as they break in they are getting more comfortable.

It is a good skate. It does as described. The only reason why I gave it 4 stars is my daughter complained about how to stop. there is no toe pick. it is smooth at the front. I don't know maybe this is for safely reasons so they don't face plant themselves trying to stop. I also tried to find an adjustable double skate so I would have the advantage of my kid getting more than one season out of it but that feature is not found in double blades only single blades.

I have purchased three pair of these ice skates for my daughter whose foot seems to grow overnight! I always have them sharpened when I first receive them and then again every 2 months or so. Since we store them completely dry after skating, and put them on the boot warmer before hitting the ice, I have yet to see any rust. I have been advised to move her up to the Riedell 12 when this recent pair gets too small. I highly recommend Riedell to the occassional skater or the skater who is just starting out but skates frequently.

We bought this sled as a Christmas present for my daughter's when she was 1 year old and used it a lot that first year. Now that she is 2, we have continued to use it when it snows enough. She loves going for sled rides and we have found the sled very safe and durable.

Keep in mind, this is not the type of sled you will be pushing your kid down a snow covered hill in because it's meant for babies and toddlers and therefore should only be pushed or pulled by an adult.

The only downside I've found is that it's a bit difficult to pull or push if there isn't enough snow on the ground or over sidewalks where the snow has melted. Nonetheless, my daughter loves this sled and it's great exercise for mom. I'm sure we will be able to use it for at least a couple more years with her and then again with her little sister for a few more after that.

Bottomline, it's a quality toy and good investment.

"Good for 1 kid on hard packed snow" 2009-01-12

I've got an older version of this sled and recently a new 60" sled and the 42" was the life of the last snowstorm in my neighborhood. (At the time it was the only sled I had.) At 42" it's just barely big enough for an adult. There were two neighborhood kids, 6 & 10 who did rode together with one sitting in front of the other and they did fine. I also took the dogs down with me, so the total weight was 250lbs+. The sled held up fine but it's really too short for an adult. However that didn't stop us from using it.

These steel runner sleds are best on packed snow. If you are sledding on a road, you need about 4+ inches of snow that's then packed to make it go. Otherwise the runners hit the pave underneath. If you use a toboggan type sled a few times, either plastic or wood, it will pack the slope down so that the sleds then will work great.

Best part about these sleds is that they steer so well. You can ride it either on your stomach steering with your hands, or sitting down and steer with your feet. Brakes are put your feet down! In this day and age, I guess I'd recommend a helmet for sledding. Especially for city street hills. Hitting even a parked car or tree can be fatal. (It's the speed not the sled)

The reason to pick this smaller sled is that it's lighter than the longer ones...duh, and it stores easier in the garage or attic. I've since picked up another sled (60") and I like it as an adult but then my hill isn't all that long so I don't mind the extra weight. The longer sled also seems to do better in less packed snow because the longer runners distribute the weight over a greater surface area, so they float better.

These sleds are made in China now (what isn't?) but seem as well built as the older one I own.

"USELESS and DANGEROUS" 2010-01-29

We received this as a splurge gift from the grandparents. It LOOKS lovely and appears to be high quality however it is USELESS.

Neither of my babies (at sitting up independently stage) could not be pulled in the sled as the tugging of the rope caused the sled to tip backwards and dumped the babies out. DANGEROUS! I assumed it was due to their weight being too low.

I tried again in the toddler years when they were heavier and taller, thinking maybe then it would work but it didn't work. It seemed stuck in the snow and would not pull. Then when we tugged harder or faster, again the sled tipped backward and dumped the child out!

I asked two friends about theirs (when I saw them being stored in their garages!) and was told they didn't work for them either, but they too were keeping them since they were gifts from the grandparents and were nice wooden objects; they felt guilty giving the `like new' items away.

After allowing this lovely piece of woodworking to sit in my garage for twelve years I finally donated it to a thrift shop.

There is a less beautiful, one piece solid plastic, brightly colored sled on the market for toddlers that actually glides in the snow and does not tip over, the PARICON 625 TODDLER BOGGAN. Consider buying that one, it works and is safe. Someone gave us that as a hand-me down and we used it with success.

The wood that this sleight is made from is very delicate and it might not even work for bigger babies. For this price I give it an ok. But if you need something for a 2 year toddler I would not recommend - my son is that size and this year this will do, but next year no way.

I'm sorry to say that I was very disapointed with the quality of this product. I had 2 concerns with the build quality of the sleigh, 1st the side rails were not mounted securely and were prone to wobbling which did not instill confidence in their safety factor. Secondly was with the mounting set-up for the runners of the sleigh, the surface that the runers mounted too was almost twice as wide as the actual runners themselves which caused the snow to build up under the sleigh creating a fair amount of drag, which could cause the sleigh to become unstable and tip over. I have since returned the sleigh and am currently looking for another that is built better.

I bought these skates because they are adjustable and really comfy. My daughter loved it. They last her 3 years before I replaced them with bigger size skates. My daughter said they are comfy and with these skates she learned to skates. My son tried these shoes and he loved it, too before I bought him a boy color ice skates. I got him bauer from nike and he liked the bladerunner better. I think these soft boots easier on their soft feet. I highly recommend these boots, when you know the trick to adjust it, it's so easy to adjust the sizes.

I want to put five stars in a heart beat, but I think between the laces, the straps, and the buckles are too much. If they only have straps and buckles without the hassle of the laces, I will put 6 stars, because the laces are a pain, and in the way of the straps.

The top(ankle) zip strap retainer clips are fitted with a very weak spring that allows the clip to release the strap with the slightest bump. WTF. I'm up for the discussion with the manager at Sports Authority when I ask for a refund. Too bad for the bad clip design because the rest of the skate is well made.

I grew up in a mountainous area and have always held sleds to a pretty high standard, so fortunately for my kids, we've gone through a handful in my quest to find how the 21st century has improved sleds. Look no further. The padded foam over the slick bottom makes it a bit more durable than the more flimsy style with similar slick bottoms. What's more, it's grooved well so you can actually (imagine!!) ski in a straight line (or avoid something).

At a public park this season, my sons were the fastest kids on the mountain. That says it all.

I bought this sled not for use but, rather, for show as a Christmas ornament. As such, the sled has fully satisfied my needs. However, after close observation of its construction, I do have to agree with some reviews that this sled will not hold up over the long run. The major sled components are made of steel but the rivets are aluminum. These rivets are used at major stress points in the sled. For those of you unfamiliar with the mechanical properties of steel and aluminum, they are considered to be what is called "dissimilar metals". Dissimilar metals, when in the presence of an electrolyte (snow or water, for example) act like a battery. One of the metals will corrode. In this case the aluminum rivets will corrode much faster than if the aluminum were not in contact with steel. Consequently, if you use this sled on a regular basis, you should expect the rivets to fail; especially when they are used to secure major stress points in the sled. If you are expecting to hand this sled down to future generations, you may want to look for another sled.

This product is NOT up to the standard of Flexible Flyer of old. After less than 2 hours of using the sled with my daughter (4 years old), two of the ALUMINUM RIVETS snapped. My family has an old Flyer from decades ago that used all steel bolts in stead of aluminum. That sled has gone through 3 generations of use (and abuse) and still works. I had to go to the hardware store to get steel bolts to fix this. I am very disappointed with Flexible Flyer and the quality of workmanship. This was actually my second time having to buy it since the first one (not from Amazon) came cracked. I feel badly writing this review because we have loved Flyers for years but this was disappointing.

"PLEASE don't waste your time and money on this product!" 2010-01-11

A backyard ice rink sounded like fun, but I foolishly ignored the existing one-star Amazon review (and the negative reviews on other websites) and purchased this one. You need your own pump and it takes a *long* time to inflate the edge part (there are 2 separate sections to inflate). I moved it to a fairly level part of my yard, and tried to fill it with water, but part of one side collapsed allowing the water to drain out as it was filling so we never got a chance to use the product.

Even if it had worked I have severe reservations about this product. The instructions say that skating over the inflatable ring (at the edge of the rink) "could result in damage. Skate at least 6" from edge of the ice rink". So if your kids ever accidentally skate to the edge, they will slash the inflatable ring with their skates and probably damage the product beyond repair.

Fortunately Leaps and Bounds does accept returns. However, as you can imagine it will be a MAJOR pain to return this thing. There is no chance that it will fit in the original box, and I will need to dry it out and attempt to refold it.

This is one of the worst things I have ever bought through the Amazon website.

This product used to have negative reviews and then they disapeared, so I thought there was a reason...just a scam for optomists like me. The rink needs to be inflated in above 50 degree area (which I did) but the bottom rim did not inflate at all and the top rim only stayed inflated for 3 hours (inside)! Never even made it to the point of putting water near it.

We received this sled today and upon opening it my two year old daughter went crazy. First off, this is one of the most beautifully, hand crafted sleds I have ever laid eyes on. We could not wait to get out in the snow. Upon sitting my daughter in the sled I started to pull her and was amazed at how easy the sled glided across the snow. However, the excitement less than ten feet away when we came to the first part of the slightest uneven ground; the sled tipped over and my daughter landed face first. I cleaned her off and set her back in the sled. Several times we tried to pull her around just in our yard. Every single time we came to the slightest incline or uneven area she tipped over. After the fifth tip over she was done. We were both disheartened as this would have been a keeper, however, I don't want to hang it up in the den for its beauty. I need a functional sled simple as that.

I contacted Mountain Boy and explained the issue and Kevin just didn't know what to say to me. With such high craftsmanship the actual sled (bottom) should have been designed far better. Even using the same slippery plastic material would have suited if there was a wide channel cut down the middle and it acted as two skis as opposed to a solid bottom. We live in Ohio and have about a good six inches of snow out there right now. her old sled was designed for 6-24 months so she outgrew it. it was a Pelican and never tipped over because it had a center channel to funnel snow acting like skies.

I would have given this sled 5 stars for the woodworking craftsmanship alone, but it has to be functional and work well. The sled is described as stable and looking at the bottom one would think so. Mountain Boy, redesign the sled with skies and a channel down the middle and you have an absolute winner! This sled may also work better in powder snow. Either way we are saddened by having to return it as its just that beautiful to look at.

I purchased the Mountainboy Sledworks Bambino Grande Pull Sled and the pad for it for Christmas for my 17 month old grandchild. The sled is very well made out of quality wood. However,your description indicated that it is "large enough to accommodate two tolddlers." This sled, although well made, is in no way is large enough to hold two toddlers. It just barely holds one. As for the pad, the ties do not not stay tied and the pad continually slides down.

I chose this sled thinking that my grandchild would be able to use it for two seasons, and that her baby brother would be able to ride tandem. She will probably be too big for it halfway through this season.

Perhaps it would be more useful for a much smaller child, but there are no safety straps or harness to keep the child in the sled. It also tipped over on uneven, icy snow.

Needless to say, we are very disappointed in the way this sled was represented in Amazon's online description. It was an expensive purchase based on the limited use it will receive.

I bought the sled for my 6-year-old daughter as a Christmas present. It snowed two days ago so we opened it early and went sledding on a neighborhood hill. It is a great sled! It was the envy of all the other kids sledding. It was fast, went straight, and did not spin or tip. It worked well on thick or thin snow.

I notice that one of other reviewers said it's too heavy for her to carry from her condo to the park. We also live in a high-rise condo, but I didn't find it heavy at all (I'm a 5'2" woman and not particularly strong). It is 10 pounds and very easy to carry.

I loved this sled: the craftsmanship and the quality were amazing. My 18 months son loved it as well and was very comfortable in it. However, I had to return the item because it was too heavy to use (we live in the condominium and I had to carry it from the apartment, down to the street level every time and then around the neighborhood if we wanted to cross the street during the walk). I wish the sled was much lighter! I would definitely have kept it!

I've had one for these past 2 winters and just ordered another for my nephews. I think if I had one of these as a kid, I might never have gotten hooked on skiing. I'm finally able to maneuver around obstacles and go fast at the same time!

We visited Silverton, Colorado and tried one out at the little ski area there. We were actually able to run a slalom course (while laughing our heads off).

I was worried about the heaviness of this thing, but the black bottom slides so smoothly, I haven't had any trouble tugging it up the hills. We picked this one because it is long enough for adults too.

This is the Fastest sled made. I have tried several different runner, tube, plastic and toboggan style sleds and this sled is the fastest sled I have ever rode. The unique plastic bottom with runners I believe is responsible for this speed advantage. The sled has the speed advantage on both powder and hard pack. Pivoting steering mechanism also works very well and really gives you good control. The longer 52 in model can hold more adults/kids and I think is the right size without being too big. The wood finish is spectacular and really shows the handmade craftsmanship. This sled is very well built and Mountain Boy has a good reputation of standing behind their sleds. Overall, I think you get what you pay for and with this sled it really seems that they really thought about how to build a better sled from many different aspects. I did not see any short-cuts in their design or build.

We received this sled for Christmas and just took it out for its maiden voyage today. WOW, is it fast! We had to drag our feet at times to slow down. It took a few runs to get used to and was mostly ridden by an adult and child together. Keep in mind, you need to make sure you have some weight in front to steer -- but it is very easy to steer if you keep this in mind. I am back on Amazon tonight to order the pad now. We were slipping off too easily and I think this will help. We highly recommend this beautiful, functional, fast sled to every family! I should also mention that my husband liked all the attention we got for having the coolest sled on the hill!

I bought 3 of these sleds from Ace Hardware. The first broke in 5 minutes, the second in 7 minutes and the third in 10 minutes. These sleds are not FLEXIBLE and the only FLYING they will do is into the DUMPSTER!!!!!!!!!!!! Why can't I give it "zero" stars?

I live in Richmond, VA and we don't normally get much snow - we bought these with Amazon Prime to get them here in a hurry when we saw the snow forecast. Bought the 3 pack and 1 broke suddenly and unexpectedly into pieces the first day. Temps about 32, so don't blaim it on the cold. They're paper thin plastic.

They did work wonderfully while they lasted - super fast and for a flat area like our's where you have to hunt for even little slopes, they worked perfectly. Just very sad to have one of the children lose their new favorite toy the same day it arrived- and we had tears. Would not buy again. Looking for those old alumninum ones I had as a kid!

The flexible flyers arrived on time and in good condition. Very bight and cute. However, all three broke during normal use of downhill sledding. The first one may have hit a rock, to be fair. But the other two just cracked in the middle from a child's normal use, with no obstacles. They were cute, and sled well, just didn't hold up for more than a couple of hours.

This product annoyed me to no end. After just a couple of runs down the hill they cracked and broke. I was very surprised as they were not receiving anything like hard treatment. We had bought two packs of 3 (for our 4 kids plus the two parents), but we adults never even got the chance to go down the hill! This is not worth buying.

What a disappointment! My son bought one of these with his Christmas money, and it is a complete DUD. It doesn't "blast" snowballs, it launches them (if you can call it that) with a disappointing thud, about a foot from where it started.

Wham-O advertises this item relentlessly. This is a good opportunity for you to talk to your kid about truth in advertising! Don't waste your money.

The only good thing about the WHAM-O SnowBall Blaster is that it makes smooth nice shaped snow balls. However, it still takes some time to pack in the snow. Anyway, if you're looking for something to allow you to shoot snow balls at a distance and with some force, then I suggest you look somewhere else.

We don't get snow often, but this season we've been blessed with a few great sledding opportunities. These got here the day before the last snow and it was PERFECT timing! They easily fit two riders, and FLY down any slope. After a few runs to pack down the snow it was truly fast sledding, but even on the powdery snow they worked great. I found to steer it may be best to use your hands or lean left to go right and lean right to go left. They held up well and I hope to use them for many years!

These sleds are so great! My son was 4 when we got them last Christmas and we could both ride in one just fine. Haven't gone on any super steep hills yet but I imagine they would hold up just fine. He can go on it by himself no problem.
